KITTY STIRLING
Much of Kitty’s subject matter is enigmatic, operating on a border between figuration and abstraction. References to the real world can be found in her smaller works, which begin in the form of drawings, opening up ideas as she works with mixed media, oil and collage. The process of applying layers of paint allows the potential image to construct its own narrative, becoming mysterious and abstract, resurfacing transformed. Dominant subjects of recent years include the series ‘Allotment’, a place Kitty returns to draw finding it a source of unkempt simplicity and human endeavour.
